Holiday Cookie Party 2013

Happy Holidays Everyone! Finals have finished, and I feel a burden has been lifted. For a brief moment, there is a time in between finals and finding out your grade for the semester where you can live in a world of blissful ignorance and carefree happiness. I am currently in that world, and it feels great.

As a treat to ourselves right before finals started, a few ladies in my graduate program and I decided to have a Holiday Cookie Decorating Party…despite the fact that none of us had ever hosted and/or been to such a party before. One of the girls offered her place, and she had all the right utensils including an electric mixer. The whole party was a total success! I brought the icing, sprinkles, etc. Another brought flour, sugar, and eggs. Some brought cookies that were already made and light snacks. As far as the “snacks” go, we had pimento cheese sandwiches, humus and pita, baklava, pretzels, and coffee cake. So in reality, we had a feast; there was so much food. As far as drinks go, we had apple cider and Silk soy milk “seasonal nog.”

Since one of our friends is gluten-free, we found a recipe for a no-bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie online.

While those were cooling, we made some good ole-fashioned Sugar Cookies.

For the decorations, we used RedHots, red, green, white icing, chocolate chips, glitter, and sprinkles. We also had different colored food dye which was mixed into the white icing to get different colors.

We had so much fun, it was awesome! I will definitely miss these girls when I leave.

I want to end this post with my favorite Christmas song; on last year’s holiday post, it was When Christmas Comes – John Legend feat Mariah Carey.

My favorite Christmas song of 2013: Underneath the Tree – Kelly Clarkson. I wish you all a very Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
